Here's what to do next:

Studio BE
So I wanted to reach out and open Studio BE for your children should the strike go forward this coming Monday. I have put some lessons together just in case, and we will have structured enrichment during the times your child would have otherwise been in school.
We can offer this to you for $20/day. If you are interested in this option, please respond to this email so I can get an idea of how many we might be working with. Learners do not need to be prior Studio BE students to attend, so if there is someone you car pool with who is also looking for accomodations, bring them!
Hopefully all goes well, the 'negotiating table' can be cleared and no one's routine needs to be disrupted. If you have any questions, respond to this email or call my cell (773.398.5069) as no one will be in the office today.
Sincerely,
Tamara Drew

Uptown Strike Camp
http://uptownstrikeschool.blogspot.com/
At 4554 N. Broadway, 3rd Floor - Northside Action for Justice and the Chicago Grassroots Curriculum Taskforce are sponsoring a 1st grade to 8th grade school for children in Uptown during the strike. We have recruited volunteer CPS teachers who will teach 3 hours of reading, writing, and math each day after they leave the picket line. The school day will go from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will include lunch, physical education and teambuilding activities, and arts programming run by community volunteers and arts institutions. Each classroom will have an adult assistant and high school students working as tutors. Additional volunteers will work from 8 to 9 a.m. and from 3 to 4 p.m. to provide safe passage for children to walk to and from school.
We intend to enroll up to 100 children and so are seeking 4 classrooms that can each house learning space for 25 children. We are acquiring reading materials, paper, pencils, and some art supplies but need copy services donated to provide additional materials. Lunch will be provided through DHS and will be served in the classrooms.
Along with volunteers, our most urgent need right now is for space to house the program: ideally we would like all classrooms under one roof, but if that is not feasible we are looking for no more than two sites total for logistical reasons. If you cannot help with space, any goods or services you could contribute would be much appreciated. If your organization can help us in any way, please contact Shalonda Peterson at 773-865-8374 or by email contact Karen Zaccor at kzaccor@comcast.net .
