Notes from Saturday's Chicago Educational Facilities Task Force Meeting

Notes from RYH Hyde Park parent Joy Clendenning from the CEFTF meeting - 1/12/13

I went to the Illinois General Assembly Chicago Educational Facilities
Task Force (CEFTF) public hearing on the West side on Saturday. This
is a body chaired by State Rep. Cynthia Soto and State Senator Heather
Steans and it is charged by the General Assembly with monitoring and
reporting on CPS' process regarding mandates in SB 630 -- about the
10-year Facilities Master Plan and School Actions.

In thinking about the possible school actions this year, the Task
Force has several recommendations for individual schools -- you could
take these to your LSC:

1) Do a walk through to look at Space Utilization in your school --
you can use this tool from Blocks Together:
http://www.btchicago.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/BT_Fact_sheet_on_utilization1.pdf

2) Write up any details about your school which might explain the
current situation at your school -- a change in administration, a
shift in attendance boundaries, the role of the school in your
community, etc.  Make a case for your school's future.

3) E-mail the report on your school to your Network Chief, the CTU,
the Principal's association, and the CEFTF
This link gives phone numbers for the networks, I cannot find a list
of e-mails :  http://www.cps.edu/Contact_CPS/Frequently_called_numbers/Pages/Fequentlycallednumbers.aspx

CTU:  leadership@ctulocal1.com

Clarice Berry -- Principals' Association:  cjackson-berry@cps.k12.il.us

Task Force:  ceftf.ilga@gmail.com

4) Attend the next public hearing of the Task Force and testify about
your school:
Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013
10:00 am

Chicago Embassy Church
5848 S. Princeton

The public is also welcome at the CEFTF joint subcommittee meeting --
School Actions and Master Planning -- 2nd Mondays at 9:30am at the
Bilandic Building downtown -- next meeting Monday, Feb. 11.

I hope this information is helpful.
