Sample Letter to the Govenor

I am writing to ask that you keep the General Assembly in session until the state's budget crisis has been resolved in such a manner as to at least maintain level state funding for public education without shifting funds to the detriment of other, important state programs, such as health and human services. I am asking that you veto any FY 2011 budget which cuts education funding and only accept a FY 2011 budget which at least maintains education funding at last year’s levels.

Your record as a public servant has shown that you understand the need for appropriate and sustained funding for public education through revenue reform. There is no greater priority in the State of Illinois at this time than for you to ensure that this crisis is resolved. The people of Illinois are counting on you to be a strong leader. Please do not let the General Assembly go home until they have done their job.
