School Year 2014-2015 Wrap up! | 6.19.15
We accomplished a lot together this year! Thanks to all of our volunteers who played a huge part in these accomplishments. Here's some of what we did this year:
-- Helped open up a discussion in Springfield about the impact that the overuse and misuse of standardized testing is having on the classroom and passed an opt-out bill in the House with a subject matter hearing in the Senate
---Broadened our parent network to include many parents outside of Chicago in numerous districts
--Held public forums and numerous small-group parent meetings around the city and in the suburbs
-- Testified at almost every CPS BOE meeting, state board of ed meetings, subject matter hearings in Springfield sharing research and data on need for better policies
--Canvassed and partnered with mulitiple organizations for the elected representative school board campaign getting a referendum on the ballot in 37 wards showing that 90% of voters support an ERSB
--Worked with various organizations (Community Renewal Society, KOCO and others) on state education funding changes
--Presented at many conferences - NPE, AERA, John Dewey Circle; presented in various university classrooms on the work of RYH. Invited by this year's Golden Apple fellows to collaborate.
--Joined Generation All, a citywide initiative formed by the Chicago Community Trust and the Ford Foundation to revitailze neighborhood public high schools in Chicago
--Started CPSucess to share positive things happening in district schools with parent Jeanne Marie Olson
