FY 2014 CPS Budget | 7.27.13

This week CPS presented their budget at the BOE meeting and put info on the budgets online:

www.cps.edu/budget

Despite CPS claims that cuts have been kept from the classroom and programs have been protected such as the Full School Day, we did some quick crunching of the numbers and found 92 schools lost an art position, 54 schools lost a music position, 58 schools lost a PE position, 40 schools lost a librarian, and so on and so forth.  Many schools never had these positions to cut in the first place.

Some schools are moving to on-line learning for art, music:

We also found that charter and contract schools got an increase of $84.6 million (corrected).

CPS says there have been$68 million in school-based cuts but this is a net total and includes the increases listed above. Cuts to traditional schools are much higher than $68 million.

Go to a Budget Hearing and Testify about cuts at your School:

The schedule is below. Ask CPS to support a TIF surplus return. There is $1.6 billion in TIF accounts and we need the city to send some of this money  back to CPS. There is no guarantee that we will have pension reform in the next four weeks and many of our schools cannot operate with current level of staffing.
