Budget Update | 4.11.14
We at Raise Your Hand were cautiously optimistic yesterday when CPS released new per pupil funding numbers for next year with an increase in per pupil amounts. Unfortunately, what was left out of the initial report was that these increases might only cover raises and inflation. As usual with CPS, the original announcement did not include all the details and schools will have to analyze their budgets to see how they will fare. It seems very unlikely at this point that many schools will be able to cover new mandates for PE and art with current funding levels or restore all of the cuts from last year.
Raise Your Hand maintains that there is money to be moved from central office administrative costs to the classroom. Our children’s future and the future of Chicago depend on it. Please continue to sign and share our petition and tell the BOE to invest in the classroom.
